厦门大学图书馆藏品征集启事

厦门大学图书馆建于1921年,一百年来的发展进步亦得益于华侨、校友与社会人士的诸多资助。曾江水、黄奕住等华侨曾捐巨资用于图书资料建设。抗战期间,留美博士萨本栋校长率领全校师生肩挑背扛,内迁途中确保学校图书万无一失,美国地质地理学家葛德石因其图书设备完备称之为“加尔各答以东之第一个大学”。在学校与各界的大力支持下,厦大图书馆经过数代人的不懈努力,已有近500万册的纸本馆藏,近900万册的数字馆藏,有力地支撑了学校的教学科研工作,也在文化传承中发挥着重要作用。为进一步加强馆藏,更好地服务学校与社会,我们诚挚地向海内外各界人士、社会团体、本校师生和全球校友长期征集私人藏书、档案、手稿等文献资料。我们坚信这些捐赠将嘉惠学林,流芳百世。

一、征集范围
(一)物品、研究资料
包含但不限于图书、期刊、报纸、多媒体视听资料、照片、艺术品、手稿、信件、档案、地图、方志、谱牒、古籍等载体形式。普通图书收藏要求:内容健康、适合大学及以上的读者阅读、本馆尚未收藏或虽有收藏但复本不足。具有重要价值的学术研究档案以及与本校密切相关的文字、音像资料及实物等则不受阅读层次和复本数量的限制。 “厦大文库”是本馆长期进行的特藏建设,主要收藏本校师生及校友的作品(包括著、译、编等各类型正式出版物和非正式出版物,以及日记、笔记、自传、信件、手稿、证书等实物资料),还广泛收藏校内各单位各团体主办的内部发行或公开出版的杂志、报纸、简报类资料和学生班级的班刊等。“厦大文库”目前已收藏作者签名本近万册,现继续广泛征集厦大人(包括曾在厦大学习、工作的教师、学生、工作人员)的学术著作(包括著、编、译、审)和其他学术过程文献。
(二)非物质文化遗产
记录海外华侨华人、闽台等传统文化(如传统艺术、技术、饮食、医药、礼仪、信仰、口头文学等)的文字、图片、音频、视频资料,以及与之相关的实物。
(三)经费
欢迎捐赠专项经费用于大型图书购置、捐赠事务运行等。
二、征集方式
(一)无偿捐赠
图书馆将提供捐赠证书,普通图书入藏后,可在图书馆网站“图书捐赠名录”中查询捐赠人姓名、捐赠书目等信息。手稿、信件、档案、照片等特色文献列入特藏资料管理,图书馆将采取专业方法对文献资料进行长期保存和妥善保护,包括遵守知识产权相关规定下进行必要的数字化、举办专题展览等。 本校师生、校友个人或合作出版物,可在赠书前衬页或扉页签名题赠或钤印私章,赠书入图书馆“厦大文库”永久收藏。大批量赠书,根据捐赠人要求,可由图书馆专门刻制赠书人印章钤印。限定公开时间、使用方式及保存空间的特色资料,由捐赠人与图书馆协商签订赠送协议,图书馆根据协议相关规定加以管理。
(二)采购
对单位或个人合法持有的藏品,在所有者自愿出售的前提下,经鉴定评估后进行有偿收购或捐赠。
(三)复制
对单位或个人合法持有的珍贵藏品,遵守国家法律法规,通过复制方式进行捐赠。
(四)寄存、托管或借展
单位或个人自愿将合法所有的珍品委托本馆寄存、托管和展览,本馆经评估论证后与其签订寄存、托管或借展协议。

Open Call for Xiamen University Library Collections

Xiamen University Libraries was founded in 1921. The well-known librarian Alfred K. M. Chiu, Dr. Lin Yutang and many other famous scholars served as the library directors and devoted themselves to the development of the library collection. In the past century, Xiamen University Libraries has received tremendous financial support from overseas Chinese businessmen, such as Zeng Jiangshui and Huang Yizhu from the Southeast Asia, who have donated extensively for library collection development. During the Anti-Japanese War, our university president Dr. Pen-Tung Sah led the faculty and students in carrying library collections on their shoulders and backs all the way to Changting County, which helped protect the collections from the ravages of the war. The renowned American geographer George B. Cressey praised Xiamen University as "the First University beyond the east of Calcutta" for its mature library collections and equipment. Under the aegis of Xiamen University and many other supporters from all over the world, the library’s paper and digital collections have reached five million volumes and nine million volumes respectively after several generations’ endeavors, which well fulfills teaching and academic research requirements, and plays an important role in cultural heritage. In order to further enrich our collection and to better serve the academic community and society, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Xiamen University, we sincerely call for donations of private memorabilia, archives, manuscripts, and other materials from individuals, institutions, faculties, students, staffs and alumni at home and abroad. We strongly believe that these donations will greatly benefit our researchers and will last as a strong symbol of goodwill far into the future.
I. What We Are Looking For
A. Tangible Objects, Research Materials
We call for donations that include but are not limited to books, periodicals, newspapers, multimedia, photographs, artifacts, manuscripts, correspondence, archives, maps, local chronicles, genealogies, ancient books and other forms of materials. It requires healthy content and the reading level should be suitable for university levels or above. For general official publications, books new to the library’s holdings are welcomed, and duplicates should be limited to five. Special collections with thematic or document type features will be exempted from reading level and copy restrictions. “XMUer Library” is a long term special collection project of Xiamen University Libraries, which collects official and non-official publications of faculties, students, staffs, alumni along with diaries, notes, autobiography, correspondence, manuscripts, certificates, etc. “XMUer Library” also widely collects campus periodicals, newspapers, briefings. It has collected nearly ten thousand author-signed copies and continues to widely call for academic monographs and other materials from XMUers who has ever studied and/or worked in Xiamen University.
B. Intangible Cultural Heritage Manifestations
Traditional forms of culture and related material manifestations handed down from generation to generation by Southeast Asians, Chinese Diasporas, Fukien and Taiwanese (e.g. traditional art, skills, food, beverages, medicines, ceremonies, oral literature).
C. Funds
Donated funds for the operation or acquisition of thematic collections are certainly welcome.
II. How You Can Help
A. Donate
Donation certificates will be offered, and donation catalog will be displayed through the “Library Donors’ Directory” system. Special shelves can be set on demand for large donations.
B. Sell to the Library
Given that the owner is willing to sell, the library is open to purchasing collections from institutions or individuals after appraisal.
C. Allow for Reproduction
In the event that the original valued collections cannot be acquired, donations of a reproduction of the original with the consent of the owner will also be welcomed in compliance with the appropriate laws and regulations.
D. Deposit, Loan Exhibition
A deposit or loan agreement between the library and the owner can be signed if the owner wishes to entrust treasures to the library for conservation and exhibition. The library will provide gratuitous preservation of such items and put them to reasonable use.
